Summer Newsletter

Dear Member,

As usual I'd like to wish you a successful and enjoyable showing season! As I write the weather resembles the wash-out of last year so fingers crossed for an up-turn very soon.

Area Show 2008
Enclosed with this newsletter is a schedule for the NPS Area 4 Show to be held on Monday 25th August 2008 for past exhibitors, members who did not exhibit last year but who would like a schedule should contact the secretary, Jane Burnell on 01904 738139 or you can also download a copy from the website (Forthcoming Events Page)

Please note the closing date of entries is 8th August.

Members who were successful last year and received trophies should return them to our Trophy Secretary, Miss Sarah Batley by the 8th August or by prior arrangement they may be returned on show day. Sarah can be contacted on 01977 661332.

If you would like to help by sponsoring a class please contact Richard Tomkinson (01405 785651) or alternatively fill in the Sponsorship form enclosed. I do appreciate this is an annual plea but we do need your continued support as it is not only fuel costs that continue to spiral.

My next annual plea, if anyone is interested in stewarding on the day, helping serve refreshments or setting up the showground the afternoon before show day please contact our new Chief Steward Erika Carter (07817969574) or the Show Secretary Jane Burnell (01904 738139).

NPS AGM
In March I attended main NPS AGM which was held in the South of England.
Not surprisingly not may of our members attended, however I'm sure those who did enjoyed themselves both at the meeting and at a very well organised post-meeting dinner dance.

We were asked at the AGM to consider putting on a qualifier for the new NPS/Topspec Dressage Competition, the final of which will be held at Addington Manor in Buckinghamshire in April. The inaugural competition proved very successful but was largely southern based. Would our members support such a competition if we put a qualifier on? I'd welcome your feedback on this. For information I have enclosed the 2008 results on page 6.

Spring Show
The spring show held at Richmond Equestrian Centre went well, with good entries throughout.
Supreme Ridden championship went to the Welsh section B Rhoson Shem, with the in-hand equivalent going to Thursdaen Valley Raphael.

Thanks go to Norma Thompson who organised the show with her usual team of willing volunteers.

Committee Nominations
At the end of this newsletter is a tear off slip for nominations for the Area 4 committee. In line with the area constitution they must be completed and returned to the secretary to be received not later than 1st September 2008. The nominee, proposer and seconder must be fully paid up NPS Members.

Area Points Competiton
As requested at last years AGM, I am including the results of the 2007 Area points competition with the number of points attained. As you will see the number of points are not massive, so it is worth submitting your entry. In committee we are concerned that the competition is not well supported and we will have to re-think it if the number of entries does not increase.

I am also enclosing a list of events the area is organising, some of which I hope you are able to support. Please let us know your thoughts on the events, do you want them, will you support them etc….

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
With best regards,

Stephen Howard

Welfare Report

Blessed with wonderful weather and supported by so many good friends, Beckside had a very good 40th birthday party.
I had so many lovely cards and flowers and if anyone slipped through the net of my thanks, I would like to thank them now.
We hope when all the bills are settled we will be able to help 3 or 4 chosen equine charities.
On a more serious note, I would ask pony owners to be vigilant as there have been a number of reports of ponies being photographed at home in their paddocks which are subsequently stolen - it would therefore suggest they are being stolen to order - please keep a careful watch.
If I can help in any way with welfare problems please contact me on (01423) 560919.

Regards

Dorothy Cope.
