SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2010

Download word format of this newsletter, includes diary dates and nomination forms.

Dear Member,

As usual I'd like to wish you a successful and enjoyable showing season, by now I trust your mares have foaled safely and your show stock are getting into the swing of the season!

Sadly, I need to report that Sheena Lawson died last month. Sheena was a respected NPS judge, previous Area 4 committee member and a long time supporter of the NPS. Our condolences go to her family and we plan to organise a trophy in her memory to be given to the Area Spring Show.
On another sad note our long standing treasurer Richard Tomkinson suffered a stroke in February, following a long stay in hospital Richard is now home and on the road to recovery. His treasurer duties are being covered by Amanda Barton, thanks Amanda for stepping in and to Richard we wish you a speedy recovery.

Summer Show 2010

Schedules are almost ready for the NPS Area 4 Show to be held on Monday 30th August 2010, they are being sent out separately to all last years exhibitors but if you would like a schedule should contact the secretary, Jane Burnell on 01904 738139 or you can also download a copy from the website at www.npsarea4.co.uk. If you do received a schedule and won't be using it please try to pass it on to someone you think will.

Please note the closing date for entries is 9th August.

Members who were successful last year and received trophies should return them to our Trophy Secretary, Miss Sarah Batley by the 9th August or by prior arrangement they may be returned on show day. Sarah can be contacted on 01977 661332.

If you feel able, we would very much appreciate any individual class sponsorship, never wishing to miss an opportunity a form is attached or alternatively please contact Jane Burnell (01904 738139) if you have suggestions for corporate sponsors we might be able to contact. Apologies as I realise this is an annual plea but we do need your continued support to ensure we can fight off the spiralling costs on all fronts.

My next annual plea, if anyone is interested in stewarding on the day, helping serve refreshments or setting up the showground the afternoon before show day please contact our new Chief Steward Erika Carter (07817 969574) or the Show Secretary Jane Burnell (01904 738139).

Spring Show

I understand the spring show held at Richmond Equestrian Centre in April went well (apologies to all as I was already committed to judge elsewhere when our spring show date was finalised), with very strong entries in the ridden/WHP classes resulting in a finish after 7 in the evening. We will do our best to re-jig the schedule to try and avoid this in the future.
Supreme Ridden championship, judged by Mr Phil Sweeting went to the Stanley Grange Studs' Daldorn Springtime with the in-hand equivalent going to J Devenneys' Powys Sprite. Thanks go to the Spring Show secretary, Norma Thompson who organised the show with her usual team of willing volunteers.

Area Dressage Qualifier

Our first attempt at an area dressage qualifier was well received by those who attended. We have put low numbers down to the snow and ice in the 3 or 4 weeks immediately prior to the competition and hope to be able to hold a similar event next year. Many thanks to Margaret Furness who kindly organised and to Sue Foster at Richmond for her support.

Committee Nominations

As usual with the Summer Newsletter I am including a tear off slip for nominations for the Area 4 committee. In line with the area constitution they must be completed and returned to the secretary to be received not later than 1st September 2010. The nominee, proposer and seconder must be fully paid up NPS Members.

Area Points Competition

After much deliberation we have agreed to continue with the points competition but I am relying on you for support. As we discussed at the AGM we no longer have a main sponsor for this but we'll continue to try and find one.
To make the competition more open to everyone, we've decided that there will be no set shows, we only ask that they are affiliated to either NPS, PUK, or BSPS and the classes you claim points in are a specific match to our award classes.
Attached is a form for you to complete with a maximum number of 12 results, I will also circulate this with the autumn newsletter so there are no excuses for not entering!
Malcolm will continue to organise this competition so please discuss any areas of clarification with either him or me.

Young Judges Competition - Malvern - 3rd August

The NPS will be running a young judges competition at Malvern on the evening of Tuesday 3rd August, immediately prior to the show on Wednesday. Individuals are encouraged to participate but as an Area we would like to submit a team. We will therefore be holding a training session for all potential young judges (10 to 25 year old) at :
Stanley Grange, Great Ayton on 5th July at 7pm
Di Hadwens stud near Bradford on 19th July at 7pm.
The aim of the evening will be fun, but also to decide upon a team to represent the Area. Please contact Di Hadwen on 01274 817092 if you are interested in attending the training sessions, and thanks to those who have already expressed an interest. Many thanks to Di Hadwen and Madge Taylor who have agreed lead on this.

Below is a list of events the area is organising, some of which I hope you are able to support. Please let us know your thoughts on the events, do you want them, will you support them etc….

Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing you at the show (if not before)!

With best regards,

Stephen Howard
